Faculty Research Support
Every year CGS awards a number of seed grants to individual Mason faculty and to small research groups representing perspectives from multiple academic units and disciplines. This program aims to provide support for new cutting-edge research that embodies the Center's multidisciplinary ethos and which embodies the intellectual vision of global studies by integrating the cultural, economic, political, technological, and scientific aspect of globalization.
The Center accepts applications and determines awards for Faculty Research Support every fall semester with an announcement detailing the deadline released early in the semester. Applications are accepted only during this time. For more information click here.

Franklin Fellowship – U.S. Department of State
George Mason University is an inaugural partner in the U.S. Department of State’s new Franklin Fellowship program. This initiative provides opportunities for experts from academia and the private sector to spend a year or more working at the State Department and directly applying their expertise to the foreign policy process.
All full-time faculty at Mason are eligible to apply for the Franklin Fellowships, and the selection process is administered by the Center. Information will be available on the website when our next selection cycle begins.
In the meantime, more information is available from the State Department’s own website for the Franklin Fellows program.

Visiting Scholars
The Center for Global Studies welcomes visiting scholars affiliated with other academic institutions in the United States and abroad. We provide affiliations for a semester or full academic year to scholars wishing to conduct research in the Washington DC area while simultaneously contributing to the intellectual life of the university. While these positions are not currently remunerated, we provide researchers who have their own sources of funding with office space, computer & telephone, and an institutional affiliation that provides access to the Washington Research Library Consortium. We welcome inquiries about the visiting scholars program from both post-doctoral researchers, and doctoral candidates planning to conduct dissertation research in the Washington DC area.
All applications are considered by committee and scholars offered affiliation with the Center should take into consideration that the Department of Homeland Security must process all requests for visa sponsorship. Therefore, please allow three months time between the offer of affiliation on behalf of the Center and the scholar’s date of entry into the US. For further details of the visiting scholars program and application process, please contact Anne O’Dell.
